Sonny NEWCOMB
nothing gory means no glory
TWENTY-SIX | GENDERFLUID |
ABILITY nature | PRONOUNS they/them/theirs |
Appearance
The first thing people typically notice about Sonny is their unusually bright hair, which they have been dying the color navy and light blue for as long as they care to remember. They can almost always be seen with a smiling or otherwise happy expression on their face, which is said to be somewhat infectious. Sonny often wears skinny jeans and flannel shirts layer over with hoodies, sometimes with lame graphic tees; as hipster code requires. They are also particularly fond of sunglasses and eyewear, despite the fact that they don't really necessarily need glasses.
Standing at about 5'8", Sonny is not exactly the most imposing figure. If they had to pick, they would say that if they had to pick, they would identify more along the lines of masculine, due to their upbringing. They however, do not really feel comfortable with the stereotypical depiction of masculinity. They can often be found wearing obnoxiously large headphones and glued to their smartphone, which they named Chekov. They has 'CARPE DIEM' tattooed on their knuckles, as well as the name of their sister, Christine, tattooed on their collarbone. They have their ears stretched to approximately 3/4" of an inch, as well as varying facial piercings, which they switch out on a regular basis. This includes a lip, nose and eyebrow piercing all on their right side of their face.
BIOGRAPHY
Sonny Newcomb was born in April over twenty years ago, to a relatively normal family. They were particularly close to their older sister by two years, a beautiful young girl by the name of Christine. They looked up high in the sky to Christine, who had always been the apple of their parents' eye. Not to say that they did not love Sonny to pieces either; in fact, they loved their son and expected nothing less than what Christine had done for them as well.
Up until they got into high school, there was not much about Sonny's life that they could say was out of sorts. They had done more or less average in middle school, their sister had already become an honors student and excelled in foreign language and magical knowledge. While Sonny themselves were rather interested in those same subjects, they found that they simply just did not have that raw, natural talent that their sister did. It was somewhat upsetting, as they were constantly frustrated. They had an incredibly difficult keeping focus in class, they were constantly anxious and worried while also being eager to simply run around and do something. The only outlet he had was running track, but that was cut short after a bad fall left him with a permanently messed up ankle.
Lost in what they would later recognize as an onset of depression, they found that the only thing that could really make them smile was Christine, who would come home from university on weekends. Often times, she would get them out of their room and get them to do various tasks with her, such as studying, driving her around or shopping. It was because of her that they even considered going into a music store with the promise that she would "just be a second". It was then that Sonny picked up their first guitar and a flyer behind a wall that read in bold letters, "LESSONS". Just from holding the instrument in their hands, they knew that they actually wanted to try. And with immediate encouragement from their sister, he signed up.
If it were not for their love of music and their sister, Sonny does not know where they would be now. It was their sister that encouraged them to get out of bed that morning, and music that kept them out of it. And for the remainder of their schooling, they began to open up again. Making friends and catching up with old ones, cutting out the ones in their life that were negative or not accepting of their identity or interests.
They never did pursue a higher education, largely because they knew that they would never pass any sort of entrance exam. They also believed that it simply was not for them, as they believed that they had the god-given (no pun intended) talent for music and school would be a waste of nervous energy. It was only after they moved out that they came out to their parents and friends. Sonny's parents essentially cut them out of their life for rejecting the title of 'son' and wanting to become a musician, versus getting a corporate and stable job like Christine. It is because of their sister that they are the happiest they have ever been, despite the fact that they are in the worst financial situation they've ever faced. While their parents may have some opinions on global affairs, Sonny cannot be bothered (nor afford to) really think of anyone but themselves at the moment. However, Sonny is definitely somewhat of a bleeding heart and they were to take it upon themselves to do some research or even pay attention, they probably would have some opposition to it.
