Sonny found that they always seemed to be in a hurry and/or was late going somewhere. It's not like they really needed that extra stress in their life, as they always felt bad when the person they were meeting for coffee that day had to wait around for them. It's not like they did it on purpose either, it just always seemed to happen. Bad things and other obstacles usually seemed to get in their way; whether it was their alarm clock shorting out, traffic or on one occasion, an almost mugging. Bad luck tended to follow Sonny like a big black dog, and this morning was no exception.
They had been on their way to meet their sister, Christine. They typically would meet up twice a week, once at the beginning and the end of the work week to catch up about the weekend or the whole week as a whole. The two siblings had always been close and their sister had never been anything but supportive of them, but they could tell that even her patience with them was beginning to wear thin. They had made an effort to get up extra early this morning and hopefully either dodge or deal with any problems that would inevitably come their way, so that for once, they would be exactly on time. Maybe even early enough to buy coffee for their sister, as she had done for them so many times. It wasn't much, but they figured it was a place to start, as Christine had done so much for them over their life with absolutely nothing asked in return.
Sonny was more surprised than anyone when they arrived at the coffee shop almost twenty minutes early. They had never been on time, much less this early before and it was almost a religious moment upon realizing they may actually be able to steal a table to sit at. Every time they came to this particular shop (which was indeed their favorite), not only was it nearly almost busy with college students, but they also always took up all of the available spaces because of the power outlets. So to say the least, Sonny was pretty proud of themselves sitting at a table closest to the little platform where made drinks would be handed off at. Looking at their phone however, they saw a message from their sister that simply read 'stuck in a meeting, can't make it, xoxox'.
If it was not for the fact that they had just received their obnoxiously sweet frappechino, Sonny would probably be pretty peeved right about now. They also had to remember that, given their previous track record, that Christine assumed that they had not even put on pants yet, much less leave their apartment. They supposed that this meant more coffee for them, and after putting their drinks in a drink tray, left the small corner shop. Though they did not get more than a few feet out the door before immediately colliding with someone. Not seeing anything but their darkly colored shoes, Sonny hissed, "oh goddamn it!"
